March 6 & 7, 2010

IMG_3587This event opened my eyes to many new opportunities. The first day is best described as “Black and White”. We did simple strokes, manipulation, and knew they had to be mastered, for future use.

Asian, Happy Dot brushes and #5 Automatic pens were generously provided for our use so we could find out how they felt in getting these basic strokes under control. I particularly liked the effects we were getting with the gradation of our Sumi (ink). A simple trick of keeping a cup of water (inky washout water), and dipping our tool into this first and then into the full strength Sumi, kept the variation beautiful, energetic and fresh perspective.

The second day turned to excitement, which made a ‘real people’ session for all of us. Imagine this, coming to our location at San Diego Bank, and the key does not work. It is Sunday, no one is around. After trying everything, poor Yvonne had an offer. Lorraine Brown, who lives close by, invited us to her home—all of us! Wow. Could you do this? Could/would you do this? It turned out to be my personal highlight because out of the disaster came a great day. Everyone saw the beauty of such an offer, and Lorraine’s so perfect home with everything needed for our group, saved the day.

SDFC generously provided a gourmet pizza lunch with salad to save time once word leaked the bank had been opened by a willing executive.

While the afternoon seemed a little rushed, we got down all the exciting techniques Victoria had to offer. What a fabulous woman and generous teacher. We learned gold and silver leaf techniques, acrylic painting, (eat your heart out for missing these great demos) neat debossing, etc.

Did I mention watercolor and zentangles to relax?

I loved Victoria, my colleagues, and the locations! Plus thanks to Yvonne for picking another winner and subject. My gratitude to the board members for a lot of extra work on our behalf, has anyone honored them?? I noticed some spouses did a lot too, I guess they do it for love.

What a team we have.

Thanks to all for another successful educational event
