Traditional to Modern Pointed Pen
Carole Johnson, Presenter

At our general meeting, long-time SDFC member Carole Johnson guided us as we practice pressure and release techniques with pencils and then with pointed nibs in oblique holders. After showing images of her envelope collection, Carole discussed placement of text on practice paper or an envelope. She reviewed traditional Copperplate letterforms and demonstrated modern styles in a relaxed and friendly manner that was especially encouraging to those unfamiliar with those styles. Carole also showed us how to use pencils to sketch a layout on an envelope and determine the size of writing and amount of interlinear spacing needed. While we practiced, she gave indivdual attention to each of us.

Also at this meeting, Ginger Cook’s design was chosen for the 2015 SDFC Holiday Tea Invitation, and Diane Reiter’s will be our 2016 Birthday Card. All who submintted entries were thanked.
